A collection of material relating to the development of photomechanical processes assembled by Joseph Stephen Mertle during his lifetime. It encompasses a wide diversity of material, including books, original prints, trade journals, artifacts, and the papers of prominent figures in the field. Areas of particular strength include articles, books, and manuscripts by Joseph Stephen Mertle; the technical possessions and specimen reproductions made by Karel Klic; and the early business records and correspondence of the halftone screen manufacturer, Max Levy and Company.
